Team Relay, Party, Kiddie CX, and Tent Drop-off

Hi All, Erik here, It’s just a bit wet down here at Oaks Amusement Park in Sellwood. Below are more updates. I’m sure I’m forgetting something!

My cell is (503) 348-7211. Contact me with questions, and I’ll reply ASAP. (I’ll be a bit slower with email.)

Please be safe driving out there! I’m worried about you all.

Thank you! -Erik

*Online pre-registration closes at 1p today. It’s possible to pre-register in the person at Sellwood Cycle Repair today at 4-7p.

*Team tent drop-off is today at 4-6p.

*Unofficial course preview is today at 4-6p. The beach section cannot be completely set until morning-of each day. Some early categories may race a shortened beach section both days. Young junior categories will race a shorter course both days.

*Kiddie CX course will be available for riding and play both days. The venue is small, so finding space for the course is difficult. There is not a structured Kidde CX race on the schedule, but that may be added for Sunday. (With parental supervision, kids are welcome to try sections of the proper course during designated preview times.)

*Team Relay Party race will close the Sunday schedule. Registration will be on-site (not online) both Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $20. (This is a fundraiser for the Team S&M CX Women’s Elite program.)

Teams are 2, 3 or 6 riders with one timing chip per team. It will be a 6-lap race. Riders may not race consecutive laps. This is a non-competitive, for-fun event. Let’s keep it simple and silly!

*Race starts will be by wave intervals with short (30-60s) time gaps in between. The start section of the course is very wide for a very long time: it’s easy to move up and pass. There will be no call-ups. Let’s be open-minded here: we can do it!

*Saturday night party is 6:30-8:30p at Sellwood Cycle Repair. Please be our special guests for a raffle, the OBRA Singlespeed Championship awards, and the Harvest CX series awards. There will be free beer and non-alcoholic drinks, and food options are plentiful in Sellwood!

*What else?! Tell me!

Camping: Overnight camping at Oaks Amusement Park is available for Friday and Saturday nights. Cost is $20 per night. Registration is now available online.

Course Preview: There will not be an official Friday preview time, but the course will be almost done by 4p. Interpret thusly. Note both Saturday and Sunday generously offer 90-100 minutes of course preview time.
It’s going to be an epic muddy and sandy mess. You and your bike will suffer this weekend–terribly. Come as you are, and know this livin’ is just a hard way to do.

Harvest CX Party…and more: The series awards party for Harvest CX will be at Sellwood Cycle Repair 6:30-8:30p Saturday 11/5! The Open & Women Singlespeed OBRA Championship races will be awarded, too! Prizes for all attendees will be raffled-off, as well. Please join the party!

Change to Saturday Race Categories: The “Open 4” & “Women 4” categories in the morning are now OBRA Championship races! (Please see notes below.)

Awards: The top-3 in all Championship categories for both Saturday and Sunday will be awarded custom medals as well as other prizes. Top-3 in all non-championship categories for both days will be awarded prizes.
The top-3 Open & Women Singlespeed will also receive special prizing. Stay tuned!
The top-25% in Open & Woman 1/2 categories will also be awarded 75% of their fields’ received entry fees–with equal payout, of course. Please sign up for these races: the more racers, the more placers–and more pay!
Saturday and Sunday podiums and award ceremonies will be held throughout the day. The exception is Singlespeed, which will be awarded at the Harvest CX Series party.

Notes on Saturday & Sunday Races:
The Open & Women Championship races on Saturday are for all “Age-Class” and “Singlespeed” categories. Riders of all skill-levels–“Novice”, “4”, “3”, “2”, and “1”–are eligible for their racing age-class and/or Singlespeed categories. (Racing age-class for cyclocross is the athlete’s age in 2023–not 2022.)
The “Open 4” & “Women 4” categories in the morning are now OBRA Championship races! The Novice categories, however, remain non-championships. (We recognize category 4- and Novice-level athletes may not wish to race with higher-level athletes in Age-Class races.)
Athletes who typically choose the “Clydesdale” or “Athena” categories may race in the 4 or Novice categories if at one of those levels. They may also race in Age-Class categories–and/or in Singlespeed.
Every athlete has a home–and more than one–on Saturday!
The Open & Women 2/3 and 1/2 Championship races on Sunday are for all athletes with category “3”, “2”, and “1” licenses. Athletes who don’t typically choose the 2/3 or 1/2 categories because they’re used to, for example, Masters 35+ 1/2, Masters 35+3, Masters 50+ and so on, are encouraged to test themselves in these Championship races! Otherwise, the usual OBRA categories are still available.
Note there’s no Singlespeed category on Sunday–in order to accommodate the Team Relay Party race! Therefore, athletes who typically only race in Singlespeed can choose a different category. Most will have multiple options.
Like Saturday, the Sunday schedule offers three course previews of at least 30 minutes–a lot of time to test the course and then recover for a race later in the day!
Email bridgecitycx@sellwoodcycle.com with questions about the registration process, concerns about category selection, and/or need to make changes to your requests.
Note we reserve the right to change race day schedule times.
As always, call or text Erik at (503) 348-7211.

What else?!: More soon! 🙂

What about Sunday categories?!

But there’s one big exception: there’s no separate Singlespeed category because of the Team Relay Party race. Therefore athletes who typically only race in Singlespeed can choose a different category. Most will have multiple options!

Like Saturday, the Sunday schedule affords three course preview time-slots of at least 30 minutes. There’s a lot of time to test the course and–even better–rest and recover for a race later in the day!

2022 Bridge City CX at Nov. 5-6!

Bridge City CX (BCCX) at Oaks Amusement Park in Sellwood, OR on November 5th-6th!

This will be the 2022 OBRA Cyclocross Championships and the final OBRA Championship of the year. Make sure you don’t miss out on your last chance to win a Castelli OBRA Championship jersey.

There will be less daylight available this year than last–especially because Sunday November 6 is the annual “fall-back” time-change date. Therefore, please expect a schedule slightly modified from last year. For example, the “Industry” race will be dropped in favor of more focus on the “Team Relay” race. At any rate, we should have registration up by this coming Friday October 21st.

It’s also likely that all age class championship races–along with the Singlespeed championship race–will be on Saturday because there’ll be one more hour of afternoon daylight than Sunday. (Last year those were on Sunday.) The Harvest CX series awards will also be held on Saturday. Sunday will have a more standard OBRA race day schedule, but it will culminate with the Open & Women 1/2 and Open & Women 2/3 championship races–before the Team Relay Party race.

The course will be a combination of last year’s and that of 2019. Please know my current plan is to not use the staircase run-up from the beach. Another change is that there’ll be a nominal parking fee. (The latter helps secure use of the venue in the future.) Please note that Oaks Amusement Park is closed this time of year–but the Dance Pavilion and Indoor Roller Rink will be open.

-Erik & Team BCCX
